About David Husom
David Husom is a documentary photographer who has exhibited throughout the US and in Japan. His work was featured in Where We Live: Photographs of America from the Bruce Berman Collection at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 2007. On display were 10 prints from the Getty's collection of 23 images from 1978 to 1996 in their permanent collection. There is also a book of the same title that shows each of the works in the exhibit.
Exhibitions of his work include: Christie's New York; Arnold Gallery , Newport RI; Anderson Center, Red Wing MN; Burden Gallery NY; Tubac (Arizona) Art Center; Sioux City Art Center, IA; FISEA at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design MN; Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Winona State University. One person exhibits include ElectroLift ArtWorks Minneapolis; Baldwin Gallery, Murfreesboro TN; E. J. Bellocq Gallery, Louisiana Tech University; Portland (Maine) College of Art and Southern Light Gallery, Amarillo TX. Two person exhibits with William Pringle Rodman, Anderson Center, Red Wing MN and Stephen Shore, Film in the Cities, St Paul MN.
His photographs are in numerous collections including the J. Paul Getty Museum, George Eastman House, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Weisman Art Museum, Minnesota History Center, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Bruce Berman Village Roadshow Pictures Burbank CA, 3M Corporation, Robins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi LLP, Minneapolis MN and the Federal Reserve Bank Minneapolis.
He has been published in Aperture magazine and Architecture Minnesota, where his portfolio of fairground images won an award from the Society of Publication Designers. Husom is a frequent conference speaker, including the 1991 SPE conference in New Orleans, Reinventing the Photographer '93 and '96 in Chicago, SGO - Digital Photography in the 90's in Minneapolis, and ImageWorld Orlando.
He has done visiting artist programs, lectures and workshops at a number of colleges including Middle Tennessee State University, University of Wisconsin in Green Bay, the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, the Winona School in Chicago, the Milwaukee College of Art & Design, and Wright State University OH.
He has a BFA in Photography and Film with a minor in Drawing and Painting from the University of Minnesota where he studied with photographer Jerome Libeling. He has an MFA in Photography and Film with a minor in Art History from the University of Minnesota where he studied with filmmaker Allen Downs.
He is currently on the faculty of the University of Minnesota where he teaches new media in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Web design in University College and Documentary Photography in the Master of Liberal Studies Program. He lives in rural Wisconsin, overlooking the Mississippi River near Red Wing Minnesota.
