Two Exhibits Feature Minnesota Artists
Monday, March 29, 2010, 03:32 PM
Two artists we have worked with are having exhibits during the month of April. The exhibits represent the wide range of art available in the Twin Cities, and the range of artists we work with.

Jeff Millikan is showing some of his photographs of bee altered books at the Minnesota Center of Book Arts in downtown Minneapolis. The show opened March 12th and is up through June 20th. Jeff has had a number of exhibits in the Twin Cities, and elsewhere, including the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Walker Art Center.

Dan Wiemer is showing at the Seasons on the St. Croix in Hudson Wisconsin from April 2nd to the 29th. Hudson has become quite a destination for Twin Cities artists and the art community, so if you are in the area check out one of the finest watercolor artists in the region.

And the winner is...

I am often asked what color ink we use the most, or how much ink our printers use. Well, it is time for an end of the year inventory and I have found a recycler for our empty ink cartridges. Here is the ink for just over a year from just one of our four printers—the Epson 9880. The most common color was no color at all; it was Light Black at 19 cartridges. Light Magenta came in second at 14 carts, Light Cyan at 9, Yellow at 8, Matte Black and Vivid Magenta at 4 each, Cyan and Light Light Black at 3 each.

That is a total of 476 ounces or over 3.7 gallons. Wow that is a lot of ink. We had a busy 2009 printing for artists and photographers! And we were happy to send off over 30 lbs of empties to a recycler. We will have even more next year since we recently added a fourth printer to keep up with the demand.

Note we do not use refilled cartridges. We ONLY use genuine Epson ink. But there are other uses for empty cartridges including refilling with Dye Sublimation ink, which is used for fabric transfers etc.

Minneapolis Riverfront Then and Now, 1858 and 2008
Monday, October 19, 2009, 01:33 PM
We recently printed a new exhibit for the Minnesota Historical Society's Mill City Museum in Minneapolis. The exhibition titled Minneapolis Riverfront Then and Now, 1858 and 2008 opens at the Mill City Museum on November 12, 2009. It features modern prints of historic photographs of the Mississippi River area as well as contemporary images by Minneapolis photographer Jerry Mathiason. Jerry is a master of re-photography having done a number of these projects in the past; his images capture not just the current view, but are often striking photographs in their own right.

Above right is Hennepin Avenue at 1st in 1858. (Click image to see a larger view) Jerry's contemporary shot was made a dusk with the night skyline aglow in the back. The exhibit contains a total of 16 pairs of then and now. It is amazing to see how the riverfront area has changed since Minnesota became a state 150 years ago. The exhibit is supported by a grant from the St. Anthony Falls Heritage Board.

Guatemala Trunk Show and Book
Saturday, September 5, 2009, 03:49 PM
We have once again worked with textile artist Mary Anne Wise photographing the wonderful Guatemalan fabric pieces she gets from that countries weavers. Proceeds from the sale of the works goes to Friendship Bridge who in turn gives micro loans to the weavers. This years project was particularly nice to work on since the photographs have been published as a book.

This years show and sale will be held in Denver CO at the Rug Source - Denver Design Center 595 South Broadway #126 E Denver, CO 80209. Having seen last years show, I can guarantee you will find some great pieces. It was a joy to photograph them.

Here is information on the project, show and the book: http://www.friendshipbridge.org
