About Husom & Rose Photographics Print Studio

Husom & Rose Photographics works directly with artists, museums and galleries from the Minneapolis - St. Paul Twin Cities metro area as well as Red Wing, Ellsworth, Hudson, River Falls, Stockholm, Pepin, Western Wisconsin and Southeast Minnesota. We also serve artist from throughout the Midwest and the nation who send us their work to be reproduced. We are located in rural Pierce County in Western Wisconsin, on the Left Bank of the Mississippi River overlooking Red Wing Minnesota.

Some of the artists we print for are internationally known, but many are in the very early stages of their careers—including art students who will be tomorrow's great artists. We offer Giclee printing for artists and photographers wishing to have multiple print editions or just single images. We provide scanning of original paintings, watercolors or drawings. In addition we offer 35mm to 8X10 film scanning and scanning and restoration of historic or family photographs, prints, maps and documents with a highend Scitex EverSmart Pro scanner. But we also can work from any Mac or PC digital file from digital cameras or digital artwork.

We are experienced artists ourselves, so we understand your needs and strive to help you get the most out of your art work. We can also advise on framing, art services, creating slides or digital files for juried submission, dealing with galleries and many other issues artists face while trying to create and market their work. Over 95% of our business is printing artwork for artists. We do not do this as an aside to running banner or trade show graphics, nor are we a photo studio or frame shop printing Giclee prints as a sideline. Our priority is to serve artists!

Sample Print Projects

Minnesota State Fair
We print for some of the finest artists and illustrators in Minnesota and Wisconsin including three limited edition prints for the Minnesota State Fair. We have worked directly with well known children's book writer and illustrator Nancy Carlson, Mary GranPre, illustrator of the Harry Potter series, and artists Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher who said of our printing in the St. Paul Pioneer Press: "It might be one of the best reproductions of our work that I've ever seen."

ArtReach, Red Wing Sesquicentennial
Many cities in Minnesota are now celebrating their 150th birthday. We printed limited edition commemorative prints for both Austin and Red Wing Minnesota last year. Dan Wiemer's print (detail above) was used as fund raiser by ArtReach, a group that supports art classes and projects for the community.

Minnesota Historical Society
We have printed six exhibits for the Minnesota Historical Society and their Mill City Museum in Minneapolis. Before the Teardown: Minneapolis in 1960 opened May 8th 2008 and features 20 16X20 photographs of downtown Minneapolis in 1960. It will be replaced in September by a Fifth Anniversary exhibit currently in production in our studio.

Draw Me a Story: Minnesota Children's Book Illustrations featured some of Minnesota's most well known historic and contemporary illustrators. Looking Forward, Looking Back: Guthrie Theater Reflections included prints from vintage photographs, slides and contemporary digital camera images from the Guthrie. Railroads and the Marketing of the Northwest, featured advertising images and over a dozen large sized images scanned from original art work. We also scanned and printed the 35 print exhibition Minnesota in the Mail: A Postcard History of vintage postcards, enlarged and printed up to 16X20 inches. Many of the cards were originally published in MNHS Curator Bonnie Wilson's book of the same name.

Marge Vogel, 75 years of art, Red Wing Art Association
Marge was hired as Red Wing's first art teacher over 70 year ago. For a recent retrospective exhibition of her work at the Depot Gallery we scanned and printed a number of her projects. A print of her vintage watercolor of Red Wing's barn bluff was used as a limited edition print for a fund raiser for the Art Association. Marge loved the show and our prints of her work.
