This workshop is geared for the amateur to professional who want to enhance or expand their artwork, photography, self-publishing, newsletters or anything else that require design and photo imaging decisions. The goal is to expand your understanding and ease your frustrations over what can be a difficult software to navigate.  Students will get a hands-on experience and an opportunity to see their own projects in print.  A basic understanding of Photoshop is required to take this course.  Students should bring a “want and question” list to class pertaining to Photoshop.  LIMITED TO SEVEN STUDENTS. Students may contact instructor prior to class.

Web Design with Dreamweaver David Husom
Learn how to build and publish a complete Website using industry standard software Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. Get an overview of the Web design process, learn design and layout using tables and how to place graphics and text on a Web page. Use JavaScript behaviors to make rollover buttons and learn how to use CSS Style sheets to format text and page properties. Finally see how easy it is to publish a site on the Internet.

The course includes extensive notes and tutorials.

UC 3201 Web Design Introduction 4 credits. Instructor: David Husom. This class is open both to full time U of MN degree students and part time non-degree Extension students. Learn how to design and publish Websites and how to use digital media - including Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash. Imagine a world without graphics. Think about how long a store would be in business if all of the items were in the same dull brown bags with no clue as to what the products looked like? But graphics not only show us what products look like, they also help convey meaning, illustrate concepts and provide company branding.

Yet graphics are often used poorly on the Web and in print. Whether scanned from a print or slide, taken with a digital camera, or downloaded from a CD or online, graphics must be color correct, sharp and clear. For the Web they must be sized for reasonable download times. For print they must be the proper resolution for output. This session will cover knowing when to use graphics, how to get the best quality from existing images, and how to create your own professional quality imagery. Learn how to optimize graphics and see examples of Web sites that successfully integrate graphics into their designs.
